How to Build the City is a unique performance experience about the rules, pressures and relationships that shape how we live together.
Across the evening, audiences will move through a series of performances, games, challenges and unexpected encounters. They might follow a story, make a decision, join a team, help complete a task or simply watch what happens.
There are different ways to experience the evening, whether you come ready to play or would rather stay on the sidelines (nobody will be forced to take part).
Inspired by The Epic of Gilgamesh and the everyday experience of city life, the performance asks who gets to shape the places we live, what we owe each other and how we build something together.

- Doors open at 6pm
- The event will last approximately 3 hours
- There will be multiple breaks and audience members are welcome to leave and re-enter at any point
Where
- The Music Works Hub, Kings House, Gloucester, GL1 1RP
- The nearest car park is Kings Walk Car Park, which has 12 Blue Badge bays. There are other city centre car parks close by.
- Gloucester Railway Station is around a 5-minute walk from the venue (0.2 miles), and Gloucester Bus Station is about a 2-minute walk away (400 ft).
- There isn’t an official drop-off point, but there is a turning area on St Aldate Street, about 50 feet from the venue entrance.
- There are bike racks available in King’s Square about 20 metres from the front of the building.
MONEY
- We don’t want cost to be a barrier to entry, so this event is Pay What You Can, with a suggested price of £7. If you are unable to afford the suggested price then you are welcome to come along for free.
Access
- Audiences are welcome to leave and re-enter at any point during the event.
- Audiences will be invited to participate in activities but participation is always optional.
- There may be flashing lights, theatrical haze and sudden loud noises.
- The venue is wheelchair accessible, with lift access to all floors and step free access once you are inside.
- There is a space for change accessible toilet with a winch & changing bed.
- There are powered doors throughout.
- There are gender neutral toilets available.

- A bar will be open throughout the event serving soft drinks, alcohol and snacks.
