🗓 August-October 2020

What happens when you team up a group of local residents with a pair of incredible artists (one from Gloucester, one touring)? That’s what ‘Gloucester presents…’ will find out!

We put a community producer and two brilliant artists in a room together, with some money and some time, and asked them to dream up some creative events or activities that local residents would love.

Who’s involved?

Michelle Macfarlaine

Community producer: Michelle Macfarlaine

Michelle is a hairdresser based in Barton & Tredworth, where she’s also involved with the running of the fantastic All Nations Community Centre.

Gloucester artist: Valerie Simms

Valerie has worked as a fashion designer in Gloucester and Gloucestershire, organising and participating in fashion exhibitions both as a performer and as a choreographer. She has also designed costumes for a wide range of local production organisations.

Touring artist: Yomi Sode

Yomi Sode is a Nigerian British writer, performer and facilitator. Shortlisted for a Jerwood Compton 2017 Poetry Fellowship, his show Coat has been programmed at the Southbank Centre, the Roundhouse and here in Gloucester to sold-out audiences.

His writing has been published in Rialto Magazine, Bare lit and 10: Poets of the New Generation.

What’s happening?

What’s it really like to live in Gloucester? What’s the best way to tell our stories – stories of everyday life?

Acclaimed poet and writer Yomi Sode has joined forces with local designer Valerie Simms and community producer Michelle Macfarlaine to host a unique talk show – where the guests are all Gloucester residents.

Together, the panel will share their experiences of life in the city. You’ll be able to watch the finished ‘episode’ online for free very soon. Watch this space!

Where’s it happening?

Community meetings and filming are taking place at the All Nations Community Centre.
