How do I apply?

Stage 1: expression of interest/ hello

Stage 1 is a quick expression of interest or hello. Please let us know

  1. Which of Strike A Light’s 7 principles do you particularly connect with and why?
  2. One link to your work – could be a website, gallery or video

You can share this with us in

  • No more than half a page of writing
  • Maximum 90 second video or audio file

If this doesn’t work for you please contact us to negotiate a different way.

Please read the full call out and FAQs before applying.

Deadline: Sunday 24 January 2021 (midnight)

We will let you know by 28 January if you have been invited on to stage 2 of the application process.

Stage 2: develop an application

Stage 2 will be group online discussion workshops followed by a written, video or audio application.

Online workshops

The online workshops are an opportunity for conversation, to get to know everyone better and to support everyone to develop their stage 2 application. There will be lots of opportunity for discussion and questions. This is not a ‘pitch’ workshop or a presentation and will be informal in style. No preparation is required.

These group workshops will take place online on Wednesday 3 and Thursday 4 February 2021 with time slots in the day and evening to suit availability.

We will ask you about your access needs and work with you to make sure this is a comfortable process.

Full application

(If you have been invited on to stage 2 of the application process you will be sent a link to the application form directly.)

Deadline: Mon 15 February 2021 midnight

We will let you know by 23rd February if you have been shortlisted for the final stage of the application process. The shortlisting panel will be made up of a diverse group of artists, Strike A Light staff, representatives from partner organisations and community members.

Stage 3: interviews

This final stage is the interview stage but you can design the process to suit you.

Those who are shortlisted will be paid £250 for their time to plan and attend a final ‘interview’. We anticipate this allowing for approximately a day’s worth of prep time and an ‘interview’. There will be budget available for access costs if needed and for travel.

The shortlisted artists will propose how they’re being interviewed. You can have up to a maximum of three hours with us and you can choose how you want to spend the time. You might want to:

  • have a coffee and chat
  • run a workshop
  • give us the interview questions you want us to ask you
  • take us on a walk round a neighbourhood
  • talk on zoom
  • do a performance
  • share a meal
  • something else

It’s about how you would like to spend the time with us, whatever will make you feel most comfortable and able to share who you are as an artist.

There’s no pressure for bells and whistles- just a chat is fine if that’s what you would prefer. The aim of this process is for you to get to know us and vice versa, getting to know your work and how you work, to see if we’re the right fit for each other.

We will provide three prompts or conversation starters to get you going and help frame this. We can also talk through your idea beforehand to make sure we can facilitate it and provide practical support if needed e.g. arranging a meeting space.

These sessions will take place on Wednesday 10th and Thursday 11th March. The shortlisting panel will be made up of a diverse group of artists, Strike A Light staff, representatives from partner organisations and community members. You will be given information about who you will meet in advance.

We will let you know the outcome as soon as possible afterwards and will provide individual feedback to everyone.
