We’re one of the organisations working with the University of Birmingham’s ‘B-Experienced’ Internship Programme – and we’ve been delighted to have had Priya as part of our team through the scheme.
We asked her to say a bit about her experience with us over the summer…

Being an intern at Strike A Light has been such a rewarding experience as this was my first ever role in an office environment!
One thing that I found difficult this year was the process of being rejected repeatedly because of the competition in the job market.
At the time, I was trying to gain experience in a job pool that was consistently asking for experience to get an opportunity. Experience over skills, worker over person? I remember scrolling through the same old adverts when I landed on the word ‘buzz’. Reading Strike A Light’s job description stood out so much to me because instead of being dull, they reached out with their fun, quirky and, above all, human side!
I had such a lovely time working with Jess in the marketing sector! One of the biggest things that I have improved in, since working at SAL, is my confidence.
Through FOH work and leafleting, I pushed myself to talk to people and build connections, as opposed to staying in my comfort zone. As well as conversing, I shadowed the SAL staff in meetings, listening to their conversations in order to get a greater insight into the company and their methods. I developed my research skills online and offline, whilst channelling my creativity through graphic work and writing. Strike A Light really helped me expand my writing skills through different formats of writing from mailouts to press releases and reports.
Overall, I have had such an enriching time at Strike A Light. A big thank you to Kate, Lynette, Alex, EJ, Jess, Fifi, Zariq, Charlene, Tom and Halima for making my time here so fulfilling! The lifelong skills I’ve developed at SAL will stay with me as I keep moving forward, helping me navigate my future whilst appreciating the ‘buzz’ that life offers along the way.
