TWOCAN ARTISTS IN RESIDENCE

We’re super excited to be supporting TwoCan Theatre Company with the launch of their first-ever Artist in Residence Programme!

This bold new initiative is designed to champion Disabled artists and support the development of innovative, original performance work.

The programme will support two exceptional artists with a bursary, plus dedicated time and space to experiment, take creative risks and develop a brand-new performance piece over a five-month residency.

Following a competitive selection process, TwoCan Theatre is delighted to welcome Karis Crimson-Wakefield and Nathalie Codsi as their inaugural resident artists.

Meet the Artists

Karis Crimson-Wakefield is a Cheltenham-based mixed media creative whose work is rooted in mythic storytelling. Through sound, written word and movement, Karis explores memory, inheritance and intergenerational survival examining how the choices of those who came before us continue to reverberate through body and soul.

“I’m looking forward to the period of focused immersion this opportunity makes possible and to grounding my work more deeply in the region I live in. Engaging closely with industry leaders during this process is an invaluable chance to deepen both craft and creative exchange.”
– Karis Crimson – Wakefield

Nathalie Codsi, based in Stroud, is a theatre artist working across stage, film and television. Primarily a deviser specialising in physical and ensemble-based theatre, Nathalie trained at Le Coq in Paris and co-founded theatre company Spilt Ink. Her physical theatre show NEST toured Bristol, and she will soon appear on Sky TV as an Investigations Deputy in the action-thriller Prisoner, alongside Eddie Marsan.

“I’m excited to delve into a new theatre idea that has been germinating for some time. Having the time and space to think outside the box and to focus on research and development with the support of TwoCan Theatre and Strike A Light is incredibly exciting.”
– Nathalie Codsi

Supporting Disabled-led Theatre

TwoCan Theatre Company was co-founded in 2014 by Becky Andrews, Louise Partridge and Nickie Miles-Wildin, and is based in Eastington in Gloucestershire. The company is committed to championing disabled-led theatre and creating pathways for artists to reach local, national and international audiences.

“We are keen to engage with local disabled theatre makers to evolve their practice, elevating both them and their work. This is our very first Artist in Residence programme and we are excited to be working with Karis and Nathalie.”
– Nickie Miles-Wildin, TwoCan Theatre

“We’re pleased to be partnering with TwoCan on this project to open up space for disabled makers to think, create and be paid. It’s an exciting extension of our Let Artists Be Artists initiative and working with Twocan means this will reach the right people. We hope this is the beginning of something…..”
EJ Benning, Artistic Director Strike A Light

We’re so excited to be supporting this project and can’t wait to see the work that emerges over the residency.

TwoCan’s Artist in Residence Programme is funded by Arts Council England, with support from Strike A Light and Gloucester Guildhall
