Join us for an intimate sharing of Her Name Wasn’t Banu, a new project being developed by Halima Malek.
Halima will share the story of her mother, who came home from school one day to discover it was her wedding day. Soon after, her life was turned upside down as she was sent from India to England to begin a new life and build a family.
Halima is piecing together her mother’s journey and life story – exploring cultural identity, migration, family expectations and consent.
This is a short work-in-progress sharing, still being created and shaped. Come and hear the early stages of the work, share some food, and be part of the conversation. We’d love to hear your thoughts and reflections on where the project could go next.
