Two Places at Once: Soundroom is a headphone-led public installation exploring climate, environment, migration, belonging, diaspora and memory between the UK and Bangladesh.
Created by state of the [art] in partnership with BACK Art Foundation, and supported by the British Council and Strike A Light, the project brings together artists across Gloucester, London and Dhaka to create a shared listening space between two places.

What is it?
Inside the Soundroom, audiences will be invited to put on headphones and move between three interchangeable audio channels:
Channel 1: UK artist stream
Channel 2: UK artist stream
Channel 3: Bangladesh artist stream
The UK Soundroom features Iftikhar Latif, Juice Cui, Lauren Scott and Mercedes White, working across poetry, sound, movement, theatre and immersive performance.
The Dhaka Soundroom features contributions from Ahmed Ayman Jarif, Ahsana Angona, Anandita Khan, Artina Mumtarin, Bijita Barman, Faiza Fairooz, Jarin Chakma, Mubtasim Alvee, Naznin Ahmed, Nodi Judith Gomes, Partha Sen Gupta and Suman Biswas.
Across the day, audiences will encounter audio works, sonic fragments, reflections and responses developed across two countries. The installation asks how sound can hold distance, memory and connection. What does it mean to belong to more than one place? How do climate and migration shape the stories we carry? What happens when a shopping centre becomes a place for listening?
Alongside the headphone installation, the day will include two interactive sessions: one rooted in poetry and spoken word, and one rooted in dance and movement. One will lead the first half of the day, and the other will lead the second half, offering audiences two distinct ways into the project’s themes through language, body, rhythm, voice and shared attention.
This is a relaxed, public-facing experience. You can listen for a few minutes, take part in a session, respond to a prompt, write something down, move, speak, or simply sit with the sound.
