GL4 are Strike A Light’s sister organisation in Matson, Gloucester.
Since 2016, Strike A Light and GL4 have worked in partnership to support the engagement of new audiences and regeneration in the community.
Sarah O’Donnell and Naomi Draper, Producers of GL4 give you an insight into their organisation:
“GL4 is a community interest company based in Matson, we bring national touring theatre to our estate by transforming community spaces into a theatre. We run festivals and events and also deliver weekly vocal workshops and a summer school.
GL4 came about when Emma-Jane Benning and Sarah Blowers (Co-Artistic Directors of Strike A Light) attended a meeting in our community and asked to transform our sports hall into a theatre and bring two shows based around council estates to us. Our first show was a sell out and we got a thirst for theatre so we have continued working with Strike A Light and programming high quality theatre events for the people in our community that are affordable and fully accessible.
Our vision is to break down barriers that people feel when they think of visiting a theatre, we want creativity to be as easily accessible as sports as we believe that sport is good for people physical but creativity is amazing for people’s health and wellbeing. Our dream is to have our own arts centre in our community that we can run music, dance, drama etc. from and a space to programme national touring theatre and support local artists.”
Here’s a review of a GL4 event from Sick of the Fringe which tells you a bit more about us.
