The gist

We’re looking for a new sales/marketing/comms all-rounder to join our team in Gloucester as our Marketing Manager.

Key details

  • 3 days a week (remote & office based working)
  • £34,000 pro rata (£20,400)
  • Deadline for applications: Monday 30 September, noon

The brief

Your job will be to get people excited about our events, activities and wider mission at Strike A Light. That may include artists, funders, other organisations in our industry etc – but, in particular, you need to be able to persuade regular people in Gloucester who wouldn't think of themselves as 'culture vultures' that they'll have a great time coming along to the stuff we're putting on.

It’s a crucial role, with a lot of responsibility and influence. You'll be expected to generate the numbers (bookings, traffic, engagement etc) we need – but you'll get a massive amount of say in how to best go about that. You can shape the product you've got to sell.

About you

We hope this can be a great opportunity for someone looking to stretch themselves to new levels of responsibility and freedom. This is your chance to show that you can get amazing results if someone trusts you to get on with the work. (We will trust you to get on with the work!)

This is one of those jobs where your skills are a lot more important than your experience.

You should have some technical marketing skills; you don't need to be an expert in everything, but you should be good at some things like copywriting, video production, socials, graphic design or digital media. And, crucially, you'll have the ability and willingness to talk to people persuasively.

"If you like the art of persuasion, you won't find a more enjoyable, satisfying and rewarding job. It's a brilliant bunch of people to work with, a mission that makes a difference in the real world and you get to genuinely see the results of your efforts.

They'll trust you and listen to you, too – so if you're thinking 'I could do that if someone gave me a chance, but no one ever does', I'd STRONGLY encourage you to apply."
– Ben Whitnall (current Marketing Manager)

And you don’t have to fit a fixed mould to be the right person for it. Maybe you’ve never worked in the arts before, or you've not officially been a 'Manager' yet. Maybe you’ve been frustrated by a system that is stacked against you, or feel like no one has given you the backing to reach your potential. Those things are not an obstacle here. YOU CAN APPLY FOR THIS JOB.

Read on for the full job description and person specification.

(There’s A LOT of info in there and the whole lot might look pretty daunting – but it’s because we’re trying to make sure we’ve covered everything that might be included. Ultimately, we’re looking for the right person and what YOU can bring – so please do talk to us about the role even if you don’t feel sure about every single bullet point on the list!)
